Bar/Bat Mitzvah for the Special Child | Operation Mazal Tov | Netaim | MAAYAN

Introduced in 2003, Maayan is an exciting new program that allows young adults with special needs to work as staff members at the Ramah-NOAM Summer Camp. The program is a natural extension of the Netaim camp, at which graduates of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah for the Special Child program enjoy two weeks of fun and educational activities, alongside the Ramah-NOAM camp. Just as Ramah-NOAM campers go on to become staff members, so too do Netaim campers.

This first year, three youngsters worked on the program, helping out at the medical clinic, in the kitchen and with the Camp Rabbi. The three “workers” were viewed as integral members of staff by both the rest of the staff and the campers.

This is yet another program in which Masorti youth are involved in Tikun Olam (social action), as a natural part of their day.
