Message from Rabbi Ehud Bandel, President, Masorti Movement

For us Israelis, it is most inspiring and uplifting to know that as we gather here to celebrate our Independence Day, you – our sisters and brothers around the world – are also directing your eyes and hearts towards Zion, in a celebration of solidarity. This is what observing Yom Ha’atzmaut in the Diaspora is all about: a sense of unity and fraternity, a sense of mishpuche , of being one big united and caring family.

The Board and staff of the Masorti Movement wish you all a festive Yom Ha'atzmaut.
We look forward to welcoming you in our kehillot during the coming year.

Prayers for Yom Hazikaron and Yom Ha'atzmaut

Yom Hazikaron Le''halelei Ma'archot Yisrael Memorial Day for Israel's Fallen Soldiers will begin at sundown on Sunday, April 25, and will end with the official proclomation of the 56th Yom Ha'atzmaut Israel's Independece Day some 25 hours later, atop Mount Herzl, in Jerusalem.

On Yom Hazikaron, it is customary to recite a special Yizkor memorial prayer in remembrance of Israel's war dead. On the eve of Yom Ha'atzmaut, it is customary to hold a festive prayer service, including the recital of the full Hallel thanksgiving prayer.

You can find these and other prayers for these two important days in the Masorti siddur, Va’ani Tefillati:

Cellular numbers change in Israel

On April 20, all cellular phone numbers in Israel were changed to seven digits and the dialling codes for each operator were unified. More information about the new numbers can be found on the Bezeq website. You can call your relatives, friends and business associates in Israel using both the old and new dialling systems, however, the old system will cease to work later this year, on November 1.

According to a report on the number change in yesterday's Ha’aretz newspaper, Israel boasts more than 7 million cellular phone lines - more than one per person!

The dialling code for Masorti cellular phones has changed to 054, and the digit 5 should be added to the six figure phone number.
