Memorial Day (Yom Hazikaron) for Israel's fallen soldiers

This day is marked by public ceremonies and gatherings in every city, village and settlement in Israel in memory of those who gave their lives for the State of Israel. The day is observed as a general day of mourning, flags fly at half mast, places of entertainment are closed. Israel is acutely aware of he sacrifice of so many men and women so that Independence can be maintained.

The Zikaron/Yizkor prayer is from the Masorti siddur, Va'ani Tefilati.

Israel Independence Day (Yom Ha'atzmaut)

The following is taken from the special evening service for Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israel Independence Day, from the Masorti siddur. This section includes reading part of Megillat Ha'atzmaut, the Declaration of Independence, that was signed as the proclamation of the State of Israel. It also includes blowing a shofar as a sign of redemption, and it includes the words of the Israeli national anthem, Ha-Tikvah.
